Essentials of Substitute Teaching – Basic

This is a course for both new and experienced substitute teachers. Participants will produce their own collection of plans and guides, hear from experienced substitute teachers in the field, and test their learning in scenario-based practice. Substitute teachers play an integral role in the success of K-12 education, and this course has been designed to prepare and educate participants to be effective substitute teachers in the state of South Dakota.

This a 2-3 hour basic course consisting of Module 1 – Professional Responsibilities and Module 3 – Classroom Management.

The full Essentials of Substitute Teaching course consists of 5 modules. Work done in the basic course can be applied to the full course if one decides to take the full course within 6-months of completing the Basic Course.
