Aspiring School Leaders Retreat

The Aspiring School Leaders retreat will be held in-person on April 8th & 9th, 2024 at the K-Bar-S-Lodge near Keystone, SD.

All applicants must be nominated by a supervising administrator from their school district who recognizes the leadership potential they possess.  Applicants then complete a short application form (linked below) on which they list the name and contact information of their nominating administrator.  Applications for the April 2024 retreat are due February 10th.  Applicants will be notified by March 1st regarding their acceptance into the program.

 The purpose of the Aspiring School Leaders workshop is to provide participants with the opportunity to gain insight into the inner workings of the principalship and other school leadership positions. Participants will explore whether the leadership role is a good fit for them. Experienced school leaders will work with participants to help them understand the challenges and opportunities of school leadership.

The 2024 ASL Retreat is hosted by Technology & Innovation in Education (TIE), The South Dakota Department of Education (SDDOE) and School Administrators of South Dakota (SASD).  There is no registration fee for the retreat and meals are provided.  Each participant will also be provided their own hotel room at the lodge for the nights of April 7th & 8th.  The retreat will conclude at Noon on April 9th.  School districts are responsible for travel expenses to and from the retreat as well as any substitute teacher costs which are needed.
