TIE Membership Online Workshops

Provide quality professional development without having to travel or spend time away from your classroom or school.

Make available university credit by studying relevant topics with practical connections to your work.

Can be delivered anytime, anywhere to a high speed Internet connection.

Overview

The online workshops are available entirely through the Internet, so all of the course materials can be accessed anywhere, anytime, as long as you have an Internet connection.  Those courses with video resources do require a high speed connection to prevent excessive pauses for buffering.

Registration

To register for an online workshop, please visit our Workshops page.  Please have your state user ID and the email address where you wish to receive course information ready to include in the registration process.

If you do not have a state user id, please contact your local technology coordinator to get one.  The state user ID is a two-letter, three-number code assigned to you, for example, ab789. The state ID is necessary to participate in the class.  If you are from out of state, or your school does not have state user ID information, please contact us.

Course Schedules

Most online workshops are set up to be asynchronous within a loose weekly structure.  That is, there are never set meeting times when you have to be online; instead, assignments are posted weekly for you to complete at your convenience.  However, we do ask that you try to stay on the weekly schedule in order to participate in the discussions in a timely fashion, while recognizing that individual schedules sometimes require working ahead or catching up.

The workload for an online workshop is about the same as in a face to face setting.  The classes run between four and eight weeks, with an assumption that approximately two-four hours per week will be spent with the coursework.  There are no large papers or extensive project assignments.

Course Requirements

Most of the online courses offered by TIE Membership involve 4-15 individual sessions or modules.  While the specific requirements may vary with the instructor or content, generally participants are expected to watch a video or interact with text (online), respond to discussion questions, and write reflection papers or complete some other assignment(s).  Due to the time frames and course requirements, each workshop is offered for one to three credits on a pass/no credit basis via the University of Sioux Falls.

Graduate Credit

Participants can register for graduate credit through the University of Sioux Falls anytime during the online course. To receive graduate credit through USF, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete the USF Credit form   Graduate form side 1, Graduate form side 2 (Credit Card)
  2. Mail your check in the amount of $80 ($40 per credit)  made payable to USF and credit form to:

    Lacey Bleess
    TIE

    1925 Plaza Blvd.

Graduate credit registration forms and checks must be submitted by the deadline posted on the Credit Information page.

Transcripts

Transcripts will be available from the University of Sioux Falls approximately four weeks after the completion of the course.  Grades will be submitted to USF at the end of each course; however, we ask participants to be cognizant of the timelines for transcript availability when attempting to meet deadlines for certification renewal or lane changes.

To request a transcript, please visit the USF website.
