This DVD has been sent as a free resource to every TIE member school. The DVD comes with a Facilitator’s Guide that explains how to use this workshop in three different settings: full day, half day, or a series of late start or early release sessions. This provides the flexibilty to incorporate the DVD workshop into an inservice day, an early release or late start, or use by individual staff members. Classroom Management: Effective Research-Based Strategies focuses on three major components of an effective classroom management plan: Rules and Procedures, Consequences, and Relationships.
About the Developer
Born and raised in England, Josephine Hartmann is the author and presenter of this unusual workshop on classroom management. Jo has been a teacher and administrator at all levels, writer, consultant, university instructor, SD Teacher of the Year, SD Administrator of the Year for Curriculum, and recipient of the SD Jefferson Award for Public Service. Hartmann attended Cambridge University and also holds a baccalaureate degree in Secondary Education from Black Hills State University, with majors in English, vocal music, and history; a master’s degree in education specializing in reading and a certification as a K-12 reading specialist with specialist certification in 7-12 reading; and a master’s in educational administration from South Dakota State University. She has received fellowships from the University of Wyoming and Macalester, St. Paul, MN. The experienced educator has conducted education workshops on state, regional, and national levels; and her most recent work is in the areas of classroom management and reading education.
Video Production
A videographer with Technology and Innovation in Education, Ryan Phillips is the producer of this DVD. Ryan is an experienced network administrator and more recently a videographer with the Media Services department at TIE. Having served as an elementary teacher for several years in South Dakota, Ryan has an eye for capturing classroom interaction on film. Funded by Citibank, Ryan, as TIE’s representative, successfully implemented a number of computer-based Classroom Inc. programs across South Dakota. Phillips holds a B.A in Elementary Education from Dakota State University and an M.S. in Technology for Education and Training from the University of South Dakota.
Guide Production
Gloria Gunn custom designed the facilitator’s guide for Classroom Management. A valuable part of the central support staff at Technology and Innovation in Education for more than eighteen years, Gunn is responsible for design and production management for most of TIE’s publications and is the central source of information on desktop publishing. Gloria additionally served as the
exhibit coordinator for the annual TIE Conference. A South Dakota native, she has worked in education for most of her life, as an educational assistant in the Wall School District and as a crucial part of the TIE organization serving the entire state of South Dakota.
